Decided to spend the weekend with my father in Hocking Hills. It is about 30 miles south of Columbus. The link above will detail out the trails and some lodging options.
The map image also shows the location of some of the hikes. The area is beautiful. We hit it just after the winter thaw so we basically had the trails to ourselves. We dropped our stuff at the Nestled In. A nice set of 3 cabins varying in size from 2 people to 12. It is also very close to many of the trail heads.
The first night we did a couple quick hikes at Rock House and Old Man's Cave before heading into town to buy some groceries and grab dinner at a local diner
The next morning we were up early for a complete day of hiking. Most of the trails are short, quick in and out 2 mile hikes. Below are pictures of the trails we hit along the way.
Ash Cave
Cedar Falls
We also made a 6 mile hike after these quick ones. That night it rained pretty hard. We sat up and watched a movie before heading home the next morning.
The location is nice and easy for beginning hikers who need destinations and change of scenery. Nice place to take a wife or girlfriend for a getaway weekend for 2.
