"Bruuuce!" "Hurry Up Sundown" (06/24/24)
We have been home from Thailand for a few months. I have finished my projects for the Michigan house for the year, so if felt like a good time to enjoy the lake life that the Michigan area offers. We have been dabbling in this Home Exchange concept for the past year and amassed a plethora of credit. We decided it was time to start dipping into that points bank to book a place on the water. We landed on a spot in Ontario, more specifically the Bruce Peninsula, just outside the town of Tobermory. Continue Reading

"Against the Waves - PACNW" (09/07/23)
It’s 2023 and the climate is in a free fall, or as Republicans labeled it: Going Through a “Change” and I am not even sure they would admit to that anymore. The whole country of Canada is in flames. The map looks like a matchhead art project. Continue Reading

"Here Comes the Rain Again" (09/10/15)
I was off to Nova Scotia Canada for a long weekend. I borrowed the title of this blog from an ‘80s song by the Eurythmics. It was the theme as it was rainy and foggy from touchdown on Wednesday till takeoff on Sunday.

"Stood Alone on a Mountaintop..." (09/16/12)
A line borrowed from Detroiter Bob Seger that ran through my head throughout this trip, followed close behind by Carly Rae Jepsen’s song “Call Me Maybe”. I had not really been planning this trip for very long. More like a quick inspiration and a cheaper option to something International right now. The plan was to fly into Montana (Kalispell), and head north through Glacier National Park, Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper before circling back in a week’s time for a flight out. Continue Reading

"Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" (05/25/14)
So, this trip was a logistical nightmare, much like most of my trips. I had to land and catch a ferry within an hour. I knew it would get screwed up, but the rest of the trip was depending on it because if I did not catch that last ferry I would not make it to Vancouver Island that night and I had to catch a bus first thing the next morning (I would not catch it if I took first ferry of the morning). If I missed that bus, the bus does not run again until 2 days later. Continue Reading

"It's Winter, Why Not Go to Canada?" (12/27/09)
I had some free time after Christmas and I decided to head to Canada. This blog will be the first of 4. I decided to drive from Detroit to Toronto, then on to Ottawa, Quebec, Montreal, Lake Placid and back home. Below is the plan. I was to arrive in Toronto on the 27th, stay over night then continue on with each blue dot representing a sleep over. I stayed in Hi Hostels throughout and they were incredibly clean and friendly. I was the only person from the USA throughout my entire travels. Continue Reading

"It's Winter, Why Not Go to Canada?" (12/25/09)
Our next stop was Montreal. I arrived midday and followed the usual protocol of checking into room and heading off with camera. I was very impressed with Ottawa the day before and looking forward to more of the same old world charm in Montreal. Montreal is a big city with various pockets of life. I found it in between the hustle and bustle of Toronto and the slowed pace of Ottawa. I walked the streets taking pictures of some of the various buildings and churches. Continue Reading

"Canada...Ay!" (04/26/09)
Recently my father and I went on a day hike, and he asked me, as he has in the past, "Why do you hike?" He wanted to know whether it was for challenge, enjoyment, etc. It was during the below hike, as the rain was pouring down that I thought back to this question. I think it depends on the circumstances. If it is a leisure walk outside for a couple miles, then enjoyment would be the reason, but if it is a 16 mile hike with a 50lb pack in a downpour, then I would lean towards the challenge aspect with a feeling of enjoyment a few weeks down the road. This trip was one of the latter. Continue Reading
